Wide Open

Golf is hard.

You and I learned it from our Dad, an Uncle, or neighbor.  Today there are so few local munies to grow up on or places to caddie and learn with a leather Burton bag strapped on.

Unless a kid grows up in a golf community it’s difficult to see where the next gen is going to come from.

So the editors of Golf Digest decided it would be interesting to see if making the hole a lot bigger than standard (4.25 in. by the way) would make golf more fun and maybe just a little more accessible.

It does.  I played 13 holes at Pine Needles with 15-inch holes and it was a lot of fun.  I wouldn’t want to jeopardize one of my stellar 85s by doing it all the time but it’s possible it could bring more people to golf…the hardest game of all.

And by the way Pine Needles has got it going again.  You need to take a buddy trip there at your earliest chance.  The golf course and the bar are amazing, the rest is as good as need be.
